Our Sheikh, Imam Abdullah Sirāj al-Dīn1 performed Hajj in the year 1385 AH/1965CE and his noble wife accompanied him (may Allah have mercy on them both and be pleased with them). A group of the Sheikh’s companions were also with him. During the trip they witnessed various saintly miracles (karāmāt) from him which astonished them and increased them in Imān.
One of the miracles occurred whilst they were on the plane, and the plane was one of the old types. They had been flying for around five or six hours on the flight from Damascus to Jeddah when some of the electrical cables of the plane became damaged. The pilot and his team were all Europeans. One of them started to touch the roof of the cabin and felt an electric shock. Panic and fear became evident on his face and then he informed the passengers that they were in danger.
The only reaction from Sheikh Abdullah Sirāj al-Dīn was that he started to make dua to Allah and humbly beseech Him, and he performed tawassul (intercession) to Allah through the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He then said to his companions, “Do not be frightened, for the Messenger ﷺ has said:
الْحُجَّاجُ وَالْعُمَّارُ وَفْدُ اللَّهِ إِنْ دَعَوْهُ أَجَابَهُمْ وَإِنِ اسْتَغْفَرُوهُ غَفَرَ لَهُمْ
‘Those performing Hajj and Umrah are the guests of Allah. If they supplicate to Him, He will answer them. And if they seek forgiveness, He will forgive them’.2
And it is a right upon the host to honour the visitor. So how about the one who intends to perform Hajj to the Sacred House and to visit the Best of all creation ﷺ ?”
Soon after, the plane landed safely in Jeddah airport and the pilot came out of his room and said to the passengers, “Amongst you there is surely a great man with a great affair. Allah Most High saved us out of honour of him!”.3
